Personality:
A lot of the time Jasper may come off as thinking he's superior to everyone else, but that's not it at all. In reality, he just doesn't understand how most people can be so naive to the pain and suffering of the world. Sure he lived in Hell for five years of his life, but that he would have thought that most people would know more than they do.
Still, he can be relaxed, especially when drinking. It's his favorite pastime for the sole purpose that it usually ends up in him passing out, the only form of sleep he can stand. Although you'd never be able to tell, Jasper lives in a constant state of fear and sleeping is nothing but nightmares and cold sweats. He always knows the answer to, "What's the worst that could happen?" and he doesn't like it one bit, bringing on somewhat of a self-hate.
He's not quiet though. After all, he was only brought back to the surface to fit in, so that's what he tries. He's never really happy and when he does smile he has to use muscles he didn't even know he had. And I'm sure you'd never guess it, but his favorite thing is when someone actually makes him laugh and have a good time. You know, borderline happy.

History:
Jasper's family is one of the few death lines left in the town, but no one really knows that. Not with the name change from Volturi to Vaughn and all. If they gave that away as their true family name, well their cover as humes would be broken because they were one of the most well known and feared families during the war.
And who would want to give up a family name so big? Jasper's mother, yes, but his father was a different story. Only a few years before he was born, his family had changed their name. Still, Alexander wasn't going to hide the truth from their only son. If anything he had wanted Jasper to take pride in who they were, especially when the Volturi's own "revolution" came about.
Sadly, it was a one man revolution involving only Mr. Vaughn himself. He had tried to rebel and give them away, exposing them to be shunned by society once again. Now the rest of their family didn't want this because they had always dreamed of normal lives, and this was finally their chance to integrate back into the community.
In the end, just Alexander and his directly family were sent back to Hell for a period of a few years. Yes, for his father's stupidity, Jasper and his mother had to suffer for what seemed like an eternity to them. The extreme change had taken a toll on Sonia, Jasper's safe haven. She became bitter and began cutting herself, since she couldn't really kill herself with the duty of mother on her shoulders.
When they were finally able to return back to the surface, Jasper was sixteen (they had been banished when he was eleven). He had grown cold and hated his family, not being able to wait for the day when he could leave them, but still. He had been through so much in Hell that he found the real world to be too...happy. It was too much for him and he only fit in with a small crowd, not that he cared. Any company was better than what he had down there.
He went through high school with flying colors with as little problems along the way as possible. However, college wasn't really an option. Because of what he was, it was either the island or Hell for him, so he decided to stay on the island, working in a secret lab. His job? Reviving the failed experiments and killing any unruly ones. A loathsome job, but it's all he can do.
